Agricultural Confederation of Portugal (CAP) asserts that what was agreed upon in Social Concertation is indisputable

“I watched with interest and hope the current Prime Minister, [Luís Montenegro], declare in the Social Concertation meeting that the agreement [on income reinforcement] is to be fulfilled,” said CAP’s president, Álvaro Mendonça e Moura, speaking at the parliamentary committee on Agriculture and Fisheries.

The president of the Agricultural Confederation of Portugal (CAP) defended today in parliament that what was agreed upon in Social Concertation is not open to discussion, particularly regarding income reinforcement.

Thus, he emphasized that for the confederation, what was agreed upon in the Social Concertation is indisputable.

“It amounts to 58 million euros per year until 2027,” he detailed, which totals more than 230 million euros.

In October 2023, the government of António Costa (PS) signed with social partners a reinforcement of the income agreement, raising the national minimum wage to 820 euros, with a 5% increase benchmark for other salaries, higher than the previously envisaged 4.8%.

One of the key points of this agreement also involved increasing family income by reducing the Personal Income Tax (IRS), updating the tax brackets, and exempting the minimum wage from IRS.

On the other hand, it aims to enhance the competitiveness of the economy through strengthening the fiscal regime to encourage capitalization of companies, the fiscal regime to support investment, and increased support for farmers.
